Last Day

Some of you may know I have been wanting to find something else to do for a living for awhile. Weeeell, today is my last day of my current job. I know, can you believe it?!

I’ve been in my current position for 4-1/2 years, at my current company for 8-1/2 years, and working as a paralegal for about 17 years. During those years, I enjoyed any opportunity I could find to do research and writing (my background is in journalism). But for the past few years, I found myself coordinating mortgage transactions in an investment department. Yea, not really my thing. But I was professional about it and made the best of it. Because that’s what you do. I woke up one day and realized I was not headed in the direction I wanted to be going.

I am looking forward to having a few weeks free in August before school starts. I am going back to school in fall for more graphic design classes. I will be take Drawing Fundamentals, Computer Graphics and Concept Development. Doesn’t that sound fun? (and more my style!)

I am also excited to have more time to work on products for my shop. I have been invited to be a vender at a local products expo in Madison the last weekend in November, so I need to figure out what to stock up on for that event.

I’m excited and nervous about all these changes. I don’t know yet where this will take me, but I can feel it in my gut that this is a better direction for my soul. Should be quite an adventure!

  • That is wonderful, Terri! You need to be in something creative because you have such a good eye. Can’t wait to hear about your classes.

  • Good Luck! How exciting. I’m sure you will do very good. I have yet to see anything that did not look good. Sometimes you have to go with your gut feeling. Otherwise you will never be happy.

  • good luck following your dreams Terri!

  • How exciting…I’m so happy for you! I loved getting my English degree…but if I were going back to school now I would do something along the lines of graphic design or textiles.

  • how exciting! today is your last day, but tomorrow is your first day of an adventure! it is wonderful that you are taking this opportunity!

  • Good for you Terri! Following your heart is really hard sometimes, but definitely better for you overall in the long run. I am sure the company will be sad to see you go because it sounds like you would be a great employee. If they are a good company though, they will understand!

Wish I could be there for the expo:)

  • MAZEL TOV!! (CONGRATULATIONS!!) Speaking from recent experience, when it is time to go, it is time to go and you will feel so much better! I can’t wait to hear about your life on the other side and see what creativity your brain has in store without the corporate grind taking up space! HAPPY (Last Day) FRIDAY!!

  • You go girl! Hope you have a great last day, and an awesome rest of your life!

  • Good luck! I’m so happy for you. May all your dreams come true . . .

  • Terri, wow! I just read this in Reader’s Digest written by a woman who is a writer and captain of a fishing boat. “When you are fully engaged, life is richer. To be consumed by doing what you love is the ultimate reward. Yes, it’s risky. But it’s worth it. Simply put, life is better out on a limb.” So good luck. You are in a good position to do this now. Love, Marcy

  • Good luck Terri! I just know you are in for a wonderful adventure! Luv the bag, very cute! Take care and have a great weekend!

  • WAHOO!!! Boy, am I happy for you! You are going to love the work-at-home regimen, especially since you are so organized and self-driven. So happy for you!

  • It’s scary to start something new. No? Hats off to you. You are going to be soooo happy with this decision. I quit a job I loved a few years back. It was too hard to teach children all day and try to be a good mom to my five girls too. I agonized over the decision. In fact, I went in to give notice three different times. Each time I would come out of my boss’ office accepting a new assignment, or agreeing to attend another conference. The fourth time I went in, I finally gave notice. I’m sooo glad I did. I have taken paths I never would’ve taken if I still had my old job. Grab the world by the tail, Terri, and hang on tight!!

  • Terri, that is absolutely wonderful! I know that you are going to be right were you should be, and so happy with the change!

It sounds like you are going in the right direction, and I wish you well on this new adventure in your life!
