The Last Weekend of Summer

Our weather wasn’t very summer-like around here over the Labor Day weekend, so we were kinda lazy, and enjoyed a quiet weekend.

I practiced a few drawings for my drawing fundamentals class. We are learning the very basics, how to draw square blocks, rectangles, cylinders and triangles – all as accurately as possible (and draw them as if they were made of glass so you can see through them), so no masterpieces here! I am just happy to be learning how to see and draw proportions, perspective, parallels, angles, and spheres.

I have also been practicing drawing real things in my personal sketchbook, equally as challenging. This one in particular was good inspiration to practice drawing a cylinder with a sphere, which we covered in class last week.

I did a little sewing and knitting too, which I’ll share in a later post.

We made it to the Taste of Madison, where we sampled some food, tried a beer (or two), and saw some live music, which included good people-watching, always a fun past-time.

I’m off to check on that pot roast we’re having for dinner. At least it’s great weather for cooking with the slow cooker. Even though I’m not working now, these three-day weekends sure make me happy, especially having Monday off. Hope you all enjoyed your weekend too!

    1. Thanks Amy! We can only use charcoal in class, but I like to use an ebony pencil at home for sketching. Kinda basic and boring drawings, I know, but our teacher really wants us to be able to draw exactly what we see. So we are starting with the boring, and hard, stuff first!

  1. Weekends are always nice, working or not. Love the block you are working on. The drawings, I never figured out how they get all the angles right. That would be a fun class to take as long as they did not get to serious about it all. I would just like to do it for fun. You do good work. Keep it up!!!

  2. Dearest terri, such a wonderful weekend! You classes sounds so fun and thanks for sharing some of your work with us! Looking at those fabrics make me smile! Have a lovely merry happy week and love to yoU!

  3. Ohhh drawings :0) your shapes are really good and I love how you have taken the idea over to your own sketch book and done the spool of thread. It’s really interesting to see the exercises your teacher is giving you… Wish I was taking class with you.

Our weather here is really pants but it looks like you had fun at the concert.

Enjoy your sewing and knitting :0)

  4. Oh wow! Drawing realistically is definitely difficult…looks like you are learning very well! I personally just go all sketchy…laziness perhaps!

  5. It’s exciting to see what you are doing in your classes. Kind of like living vicariously through what you are doing!

Glad to hear you had a good Labor Day weekend. It was just perfect weather here in Alabama, so we spent the weekend outside.

  6. It looks like you had a low key, relaxing weekend! Your class looks so interesting, I know it is hard to draw 3 dimensional!

Love the block you made, I know something good is coming up! Enjoy your week!

  7. Very nice drawings Terri and I’m crazy about that gorgeous block. Oh, the pot roast sounds so yummy, I don’t eat much beef anymore so I have to get a little fix every so often. 🙂

  8. I’m pretty sure I’d be the dunce in the drawing class. Your sketches look very good to me!
I agree with your comment about people watching. I usually enjoy that more than the event we’re attending!
Very fun block…maybe a wonky log cabin?

  9. Ohmigoodness, drawing with that level of accuracy always makes my stomach hurt a little! Good thing I have a handy husband who is quite the accurate sketcher! Yours look great! AND I’m TOTALLY coveting your Good Folks block-I can’t wait to see what it is part of! Enjoy the last of the warm weather and if it gets too cold-come on down to NC-I’ve got extra room (and plenty of extra heat and humidity)!

  10. Terri,
You are so talented and it really shows how much fun you are having. It’s been fun to see what you are doing in your classes!! I’m jealous. Have a great rest of the week!
