Missing In Action

I went missing in action this weekend! At the last minute, I decided to go to Minneapolis with my mom and two aunts to visit my brother.

We got to see the farm where my brother works.

We also got to climb around some of the silos and huge farm tractors and equipment.

My brother is responsible for ensuring proper storage and treatment of 4,000 acres of corn and for getting all that corn to the graneries.

We cleaned out his pantry closet,

and reorganized it for him, which I love doing. He said his kitchen looked like it exploded!

One day I made my niece go with me to Treadle Yard Goods, a fabulous fabric and sewing shop in St. Paul. Wish I lived near that shop because they offer a great selection of sewing classes.

I was looking for some of the new Loulouthi fabrics by Anna Maria Horner.

Then my niece made me go shopping at the Mall of America and Hollister, which had the coolest web cam window of the surf at  Huntington Beach, California. We both want to learn to surf, so we stared at that view while waiting in the check-out line.

Another day we got to visit my cousin Linda and her family on their alpaca farmette. Bummer that I forgot to take any pictures of her adorable alpacas! You would have loved seeing them.

I’ve never ridden on an ATV, so that was a fun adventure to ride on their trails through the woods.

It was a fun getaway, but it’s great being home again! I have so much to catch up on this week. Hope you all enjoyed your weekends too!

  • Remind me not to invite you to my house if you do that to a kitchen lol (kidding!) – phew, it really did look like Mike’s kitchen exploded! Did you not get an after shot too?

Looks like you had a great weekend – those farm vehicles are HUGE!

    • Thanks Shell! Nope, forgot to do an after shot, which would have been a great idea! Trust me, it was super organized when I was finished, with a baking section, a snack section, a soup section, a spice section, and more! He loved it, thank goodness. Those farm vehicles were HUGE! It was fun to climb around on them, even wearing a skirt and flip-flops!

  • So glad you had so much fun. I grew up on and around the farm life. I loved it. Now I live in a city and I wished I was back in the country. I am not a city girl. You look like you had alot of fun. It has been a few years sense I’ve been to Mall of America. Always nice to get home.

    • Thanks Kim! It was a total spontaneous decision to go out of town for the weekend, so I had about 20 minutes to decide and pack for 4 days. It was a lot of fun visiting my brother and seeing where he works. I’m a city girl, so I was fascinated seeing all the inner workings of a farm. Also fun to spend time at my cousin’s farmette in the country too!

  • Looks like a fun weekend. My MIL lives in St. Paul, and we are there at least once a month. And this is the first I’ve heard of Treadle Yard Goods. Hubby got some s’plainin’ to do…

    • Oh Doris, I hope you can get a chance to visit Treadle Yard Goods! It’s a cute shop with a varied selection of sewing fabrics, more than just a quilt shop! Anna Maria did a book signing there for the Quilt Market that was in Minneapolis. Wish I could have been there for that!

  • What a great vacation for you. Looks like you had a lot of fun, even if some of it did involve cleaning!

  • You are too sweet of a sister helping your brother clean out his pantry!! That tractor is HUGE…wouldn’t be interested in driving one of those guys!

    Score on the AMH prints!!

  • Sounds like a fun time!

Didn’t know the MOA had that webcam. Cool! Huntington Beach is great. I grew up about 20 miles from there and spent lots of time there. Never learned to surf though. Can”t swim!

  • Looks like you had the most fabulous weekend! I’m glad you went, even on the spur of the moment. Maybe one of these days you’ll make a spur-of-the-moment decision and come see ME! Although I won’t be able to teach you to surf…

  • What a great weekend…a fabric shop too! And I bet your brother really appreciated the pantry re-organization!

  • What fun! And how nice of you to clean out the pantry!

  • Wow Terri, what a great trip you had! It was good to see your brother and other relatives! I think that cleaning and fixing the kitchen was a perfect thing to help your brother! I would like to drive that ATV, too!

  • Thanks for taking us on your trip! Wow! Your photos are beautiful. I’m sure your brother loved his organized kitchen!!! I would. And, you got to go to the Mall of America! Wish I was there. 🙂

  • Looks like you had a ball! Family weekends are always great 🙂 However, I can’t say that I would have attacked the kitchen cleanout thing. My hubby makes me do it once or twice a year so we can avoid the pantry explosion that you had there-I tend to forget about things and just push them to the back of the closet, fridge, etc.

I LOVE the Loulouthi prints! I bought a FQ bundle and I have yardage of a couple as well, they’re gorgeous, very Good Folks-y!

  • Sounds like you had a great time! On the go the entire time, love the fabrics you came home with!

It’s always nice to break away from routine, and get to spend some time with family too.

    Have fun catching up!!

  • Sounds like a lot of fun. I would LOVE to have some alpaca. I have wanted them for about 10 years now.

  • Looks like a fun visit! I can’t believe you had never ridden an ATV before. They are SO much fun!

On the flip side, I have never gone to treadle before. Must. Fix. That. Soon!
