Trading Card: Self Portrait

For my Electronic Illustration class, we had to do a self-portrait, illustrating ourselves as our favorite food. I chose berries, strawberries, raspberries and blueberries. We also had to show a scene in the background from a favorite childhood memory, so I used a photo of a hiking trail near where I grew up. I worked on this project in Illustrator and Photoshop, trying new techniques I’d never done before.

This was printed on a 4″ x 6″ trading card, and we had to design a pattern for the back. Then we traded cards with our fellow classmates. It was fun to see the variety of foods, styles of illustrations and patterns others came up with, from cheese, to ice cream, to candy, to sushi, to chocolate. It was also interesting to see how many people were uncomfortable with the idea of self-portrait because they went to great efforts to not show their face on their card.

Thank you for stopping by!
