When I was a kid, my family used to go to the sandy beaches on Lake Michigan for the day to picnic, swim and play in the sand and waves.
I thought it would be great fun to show this beautiful area to my husband so we made the two-hour drive this weekend to one of these beaches called Kohler-Andrae State Park.
It turned out to be a nice windy day with lots of puffy clouds in the sky and big waves that crashed onto the beach. We walked and walked and walked, soaking up the fresh air, watching the waves and looking for beach artifacts.
This beach has some really cool dunes and lots of beach grass to help keep the shoreline intact.
It also has really fine, soft, powdery sand so it was fun to walk barefoot on the beach and try to avoid getting soaked by the crashing waves.
I wish we lived closer to these sandy beaches along Lake Michigan so we could go there more often. It’s a great place to escape the rat-race and get some R&R.
Hope you’re making time for fresh air, field trips and adventures these days as summer transitions to fall.
Terri
It looks so much like our beaches Terri – sounds like you had a lovely time. The tide also looks really high!
That’s fun to learn our beaches look similar to yours, Shell! I’ve been longing to spend time on the beach for quite awhile, so it was such a treat. Such a beautiful place — I’m already dreaming of our next beach adventure.
brings back memories of home as a child! Thanks for the beautiful photos Terri!
You used to go to the beaches along Lake Michigan too, Sara? I grew up close to these beaches, so it was great fun to hang out there for the day. I’m already looking forward to going back soon… and more often.
Hello Terri,
Sounds like you and Dave had the perfect day and you managed to find a Butterfly too.
Happy days.
Bev.
Thanks for stopping by Bev! We ended up having a great day at the beach. There were lots of Monarch butterflies on this beach, which I read is a stopping place for them as they get ready to migrate South.
We haven’t been to the ocean for months. I miss it SO much! This is beautiful.
Since we haven’t seen the ocean in years, the sandy beaches on Lake Michigan were a wonderful, local substitute. I haven’t been to this beach since I was a kid, so it was a wonderful day!
