Notes From the Garden: Indoor Gardening

I always love visiting the greenhouse where my mom works.at the greenhouse at the greenhouse

She’s been nurturing poinsettias lately to get them ready for the holiday season. They have tables after tables, rooms after rooms of them!poinsettias at the greenhouse poinsettias at the greenhouseWe had fun bringing home a few houseplants, including a palm tree which will live in our family room.

We brought home a terrarium which will live on our kitchen table. I also brought home an ivy to live in my office. It’s amazing what a difference a few plants can make throughout our house. It just makes me feel happier!terrarium

We haven’t had any houseplants since we adopted cats 12 years ago because one of them used to dig in the dirt. So far, so good, she hasn’t paid much interest to the new palm tree.

I’m looking forward to filling the house with more greenery once these new plants get settled in their new spots. It feels like the perfect time since all the leaves are dropping outside and plants are going dormant for the cold, darker winter months ahead.

Notes From the Weekend: Yellow Leaves

It was a great fall weekend full of cool weather, a fire in the fireplace, soup for lunch, football games and raking leaves. fallen leaves

Many of the leaves on our trees that change to yellow in autumn are changing and falling.

Raking is always hard work but it’s a great excuse to get outside when the temps are cool.

Soon the oranges and reds will take over the landscapes.

Hope you were able to get out into the wild and enjoy this fall season!

Field Trip to Botanical Gardens

Speaking of being on the trails, another one of my favorite things to do is make a field trip to the botanical gardens. There are so many wonderful nooks and crannies to investigate.

I’ve decided to make this a regular field trip by going every few weeks to see what’s new as the seasons change.

Hollow Tree

Remember the pictures I’ve shared over the years of this cool hollow tree on a hiking trail we love to go to?

We haven’t been on this trail for about two years, and we recently discovered that the tree collapsed. Here’s what’s left of it.

This old tree was such a wonder to discover in the woods and watch it decay over the years. I’m sure it provided shelter and sanctuary to many critters. Hope you’re out finding treasures in your world too.
