It’s nice to see some wildlife still hanging around as the weather grows colder and colder each day. I’ve been working on setting more habitat features, including nuts, birdseeds, water and nesting houses.
Of course, the squirrels are always around, gorging on everyone else’s food.
But they are entertaining to watch and still make me smile.
I love noticing the camouflage of the wildlife in my backyard, forcing me to do a double-take to confirm what I think I saw.
The bunnies love hiding out in that exact same spot all the time. And they seem to blend in no matter what time of year it is but especially now with the fallen leaves all different colors.
The bluejays have returned to my area lately. I love that they are easy to spot with their beautiful bright blue colors. And I love their loud squawking, which makes the squirrels nervous. Which makes me smile.
I’m always hoping one of them will be kind enough to drop one of their bright blue feathers in my yard for a keepsake. 
Happy hump day to you. Here’s to hoping you find time to get outside, breath in a big gulp of fresh air and slowly let it out with a sense of peace.
I don’t see bunnies too often throughout the day in my backyard, since they are more active at dawn and dusk. I’m not sure if this bunny saw me sitting at the patio table right next to him/her, or if he just didn’t care I was there. It was great to witness him eating a weed! If only they would eat more weeds and less plants I actually paid for, like the tulips starting to come up in spring and the coneflowers I’m trying to get to spread throughout the flower gardens.
Lots of birdwatching and squirrel shenanigans in my backyard these days!
I’ve never seen squirrels wrestling in a tree, especially over a birdfeeder!
And I’ve never seen a squirrel climb up a sunflower stalk, with a fence around that particular flower garden to keep critters out.
Hope you’re having a good hump day and finding ways to get outside and enjoy some Fall sunshine and fresh air!
There is a warm glow outside on this mid-September day.
After a walk around the block for a lunch time break, I paused to notice the wildlife in my backyard. I saw Chippy climbing around the wood pile and arbor vitae trees, the cardinal family, the chickadee gang and a woodpecker competing for time at the bird feeder. 
It was a nice distraction from the demands of the day and a comforting moment of peace.

In order to continue my mission to draw all the time and fill up more sketchbooks in 2016, I’ve been busy working on a new theme of drawings each week. At the end of the week, it’s nice to have lots of new drawings and a full page illustration. And I’m learning how to draw so many new things this year, which is really exciting! Only eight weeks left in this challenge.
I finished a fun series of illustrations in October for my animal art series with the theme national parks wildlife.
It will be fun to use these animal drawings for a series of illustrated maps of the national parks. Or turn them into postcards. Happy drawing!

My theme for October is national parks wildlife, so week 44 in my animal art series features a caribou and moose.
You may have sightings of these animals in the Rocky Mountain, Denali and Glacier National Parks.
Caribou are part of the deer family so they grow and shed their antlers each year. They are the only species in which both sexes grow antlers.
Moose are known for being huge, standing at 5-7 feet tall and weighing up to 1,500 pounds. Their long legs allow them to travel through deep snow and swim in deep water. Usually solitary animals, they graze on leaves, stems, buds and bark.
Can’t wait to turn these sketchbook pages into fun new digital art! At the end of this month’s theme, it would be fun to use these animal drawings for a series of illustrated maps of the national parks. Or turn them into postcards.

You may have sightings of these animals in the Yellowstone National Park. Pronghorn antelope live in grasslands, and can run sprints at 45–50 miles per hour.
