Current Favorite Design Trends::

  • Hand–written fonts and hand lettering, combined with illustrations. Hand–drawn icons are especially popular now.
  • Infographics and Illustrated Maps – they are everywhere now.
  • Patterns, especially on branding and identity collateral, such as coffee shop packaging.
  • Arrows, feathers, ribbons that hold text, travel quote posters, DIY and free printables.
  • Swag, like buttons and stickers. They are fun give-aways to accompany a business card.

Favorite quotes and why?

“Working hard for something we don’t care about is called stress. Working hard for something we love is called passion.”
~Simon Sinek
This is a good self-check when I’m stressed about the day job. That’s when it’s time to step back and ask if it’s what I should really be doing.

“Live in the sunshine, Swim in the sea, Drink the wild air.”
~Ralph Waldo Emerson
This quote makes me feel free and relaxed. It’s active and encourages diving head-first into the experiences life has to offer.

“Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you, the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.”
~Harriet Tubman
It’s important to keep growing, and in order to grow you need to dream and learn.

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do that by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
~Mark Twain
Going outside your comfort zone is always hard, but it makes life so much more interesting. Seize the day!

Friday Favorite – Bento Box

I have been trying to pack something different for lunch besides the usual, boring sandwich. I used to love sandwiches, but I’m getting really tired of that routine. We’ve been experimenting with different kinds of bread, but I don’t eat wheat, tortilla wraps or pita pockets, so that eliminates a lot of interesting breads.

Instead, I’m trying to pack more fresh food, like hard-boiled eggs, cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, fruit and sliced veggies. I always feel better when I eat more fresh food and less processed, packaged food.

Friday Favorites – Wedge Boots

Since I can’t wear my Chucks to my current job, I’m on the hunt for more adult shoes that will be comfortable to walk in and warm enough to wear in winter.

I’m thinking these wedge boots will be stylish and fun to wear with all sorts of outfits. I like that they are ankle boots , making them easy to slip on. I was surprised at how easy they are to walk in, considering I haven’t worn shoes with heels in a few years.
