Art Cards – Dawn and Dusk

This is the time of year when I remember to appreciate dawn and dusk, as our days get longer with more daylight. They are my most contemplative and relaxing times of the day.

One day this past week, I woke up early and peaked out the shades to see what the day looked like. I saw the most amazing sunrise, a sky full of pink, peach and orange. Dawn is one of my favorite times of day, when the world is still quiet and thinking about waking up, but not quite yet.

Dusk is another favorite time of day for me, when you can see the silhouettes of the trees with a darkening blue sky in the background and stars beginning to reveal themselves.

It seemed fitting to illustrate these cherished moments of peace with simple watercolor and pens for the silhouettes, along with reflective sayings to match my inspirations.

Color Palettes – Art Materials

Today’s prompt for Brandi‘s color palette blog walk is to create a palette inspired by art materials.

The art materials I work with the most are fabrics. I recently posted an idea I had after noticing a beautiful sunrise.

Here were the fabrics I pulled to represent a sunrise, and the color palette I matched up.

Compared to the actual sunrise photo, I’m thinking I can probably eliminate the yellow, and maybe even narrow down the range of peach and blue fabrics too. How fun to be able to compare these fabrics to the photo that inspired an idea!

Our final prompt for the week is a free day, leaving it wide open for us to find a subject that inspires us most.
