Color Palettes – Art Materials

Today’s prompt for Brandi‘s color palette blog walk is to create a palette inspired by art materials.

The art materials I work with the most are fabrics. I recently posted an idea I had after noticing a beautiful sunrise.

Here were the fabrics I pulled to represent a sunrise, and the color palette I matched up.

Compared to the actual sunrise photo, I’m thinking I can probably eliminate the yellow, and maybe even narrow down the range of peach and blue fabrics too. How fun to be able to compare these fabrics to the photo that inspired an idea!

Our final prompt for the week is a free day, leaving it wide open for us to find a subject that inspires us most.

  1. YUM! I love the first one-the colors are so rich and dreamy. Oddly enough, my husband and I were watching the sunrise while walking our dogs this morning and he was talking about the colors he’d use to paint it. I, on the other hand, was still grumbling about having to get out of bed. This is why he’s the REAL artist 😀

  2. How lovely is this! Such a fresh collection of colors. I can absolutely see this in a quilt! I agree – I think you can leave off the yellow, and it’ll still be a really strong palette. If you use this palette in a final piece, I’d love to see it!

  3. Love these palettes too ~ the sky is such a great source of colour inspiration 😉 Creating a quilt from this palette is a great idea!

  4. Terri, I love all of the color palettes that you have been doing! It really helps to bring together some colors that we may not have thought of using together.

I think that I need to do this for some of my upcoming projects that I am having a little trouble putting the fabrics together. Using an inspiring picture to get you started is a great idea!

    Thanks for sharing!

  5. Such beautiful colors…I love fabric and all the patterns one can find! I really enjoyed the color palette blog walk…both creating and seeing what others have created as well. ♥
