I spent an entire day over the weekend practicing my machine quilting and free motion quilting, and had the best day!
This is my first string-pieced quilt, on which I practiced straight lines.
This is my triangle-square mini, with more straight lines and in-the-ditch quilting:
Now on to the free motion quilting practice. I put two fat quarters together, and just went for it! Here’s a shot of the front and back:
Here’s a closeup of that one. I think this fabric, from the Midwest Modern 2 collection, would be fun to quilt following the floral designs. Not sure what to do with this piece – maybe turn it into some kind of tote bag.
I had a few charm squares left over from this quilt, so I made a mini and quilted it:
It’s fun to look closely at the quilting after you’re finished, and notice some random shapes. I found one spot that looked like a wavy leaf or tree.
I just have to finish sewing on the binding to these mini quilts, and then I will post pictures of the finished projects. I really love working on mini quilts – such a great way to use up scraps and experiment with different designs and quilting. Next up, quilt this one and this one.
They look fantastic! Do you feel like you’re getting the hang of it? Do you use a walking foot to do your straight-line and in-the-ditch quilting? I have been thinking about buying one. Also, what do you do with all your mini quilts once they are finished? Thanks for sharing your photos!!
Good Job, how fun! I can’t wait to see them finished!
Your mini quilts look so sweet – what a grat way to experiment with different designs and practise your FMQ at the same time.
Your quilting is coming along just fine!
I am a bit jealous since I have no machine to use, but I have a quilt top needing quilting. 😦 Tomorrow I am heading to a sewing machine store to check things out. I really want to see what I am buying instead of buying online.
They look soo gorgeous!! I really like them and you inspire me with my own quiting 😀 Have a lovely week and love to you!
Great work!! I love all your “practice” pieces 🙂
