We went for a hike Sunday afternoon on a trail that is only about a mile from our house. It’s a former railroad bed, so it’s nice and wide to accommodate all the hikers, runners and bikers in summer and snowmobilers, skiers and snowshoers in the winter.
We lucked out to have a gorgeous afternoon of sunshine and a breeze before it poured rain the rest of the evening.
Most of the vegetation still looked very green, making the splashes of color really stand out.
We found some treasures here and there.
We also found lots of evidence the squirrels are very busy.
I love all the hiking we get to do in Fall. Each hike is different every time, even if we do the same trail weekend after weekend. It’s like a treasure hunt finding different things, like plants or berries or fall color or animal tracks.
You know me, I’m always happy on the trail! It sure is great for my soul.
Looks like you had a great day in the outdoors.
It is good for the soul! My husband did some volunteering last Saturday at a wetlands nature preserve near our home and spent a little time hiking on the trails beforehand. You’re right, it’s like being on a treasure hunt! And such a great time to reconnect with my husband at the end of a busy, busy week.
I always enjoyed reading your little “on the trail” posts! Such great photos and i only wish i could have join you! Have a lovely merry happy week and a wonderful day! Love to you!
Hiking is always wonderful, especially in the fall! We’re still having summer here, but soon, I hope to see the trail again!
What beautiful weather and a beautiful area to go hiking! I love it when fall comes too, when the air gets “crispy” and all the leaves turn colors. Great pictures!
How cool are those fun things you found along the trail?! I’ve never been much of a hiker, but your pics make me think I might enjoy it!!!
Looks wonderful! We actually may be able to do a little of that here now, it went from 101° on Sunday to 72° today~only in California! Have a good week my friend!
Beautiful pictures of nature!
Lovely photos. I really like the mushrooms and pops of color. Now that it’s cooling off around here I hope to get out there and start taking walks on the trails we have here.
Thanks Staci! We are hoping to go hiking again tomorrow (Sunday), so we’ll see what’s different on the trail this time. We had a lot of rain this past week, so we might find more mushrooms. Hope you get the chance to get outdoors too!Terri
