I won this fabulous Lilly Pulitzer “cheater” fabric from Cindy. Each print is a 4 inch square, which Cindy suggested might be perfect for making hexagons.
I have been looking for a hand-sewing project to take with me when I’m on the go, and this hexagon endeavor might work out just great. I would love to hear what is your favorite hexagon tutorial. (There are so many circulating right now!)
Thank you so much Cindy for giving me the boost I need to try making hexagons!
It looks like you may be making larger hexagons than I did, which is great because the prints are so fun, and with 1″ you lose a lot of the design. Glad you like the fabric. I think it is really happy and fun.
hello me again the best tutorial i found on hexagon’s was chickadee hollowdesigns Carole sent me and book from there by Kate Hardy Visual Guide Grandmothers Flower Garden. hope this of interest
Hi, Terri. That fabric is so pretty and perfect for hexagons. Here is a pdf that lists sizes for cutting squares for hexagons. I make 1″ hexagons and cut my squares 2.5 inches, although a lot of people seem to cut theirs even slightly larger — 3″. Have fun:
I can’t wait to see everyone else’s responses! I’m looking for a good one too, I’ve got 1 1/2 inch hexies! That Lilly fabric is precious! One of my best friends is OBSESSED. She had a Lilly wedding…no lie. Have fun and lemme know how it goes!
Congrats on the win!! That’s adorable fabric and looks perfect for making hexes. I’m glad you are buying the papers, some people choose to cut their own, but it’s been my experience they don’t fit together as easily.
i saw that you won that fun fabric. have fun making hexagons! it’s GREAT to have a portable project. i’ve been loving my applique. (and knitting is great for that, too.)

I really want to get smaller hexagon papers for this cheater fabric. (think mine are 4″) What size did you use, Cindy?
I will always love Lilly!!!!!!
Congrats on the win! I saw that you won;)
