From My Sketchbook: December Page So Far

In order to fill up more sketchbooks, which is on my bucket list for 2015, I’m having fun coming up with new drawing prompts, so I’ve been trying to sketch A LOT more lately. One thing I’m doing is a monthly calendar, but instead of using it like a diary, I’m using it to do a daily doodle.

This is the last month of the year, and my last month of tiny, daily doodles. As usual, I’m looking to nature at year’s end for inspiration.

As you can see, I usually just fill up every square in this grid, rather than just the days of the month. In fact, I’m not even sure what day I’m on anymore so I’m just going to fill up the rest of the page. Stay tuned for my progress!

  1. Hi Terri! Your drawings looks so beautiful! What a great idea to doodle the monthly pages. I just can’t focus to painting when I have so much fabric in my mind but perhaps this I could do…or would they come quilt blocks…but that’s not a bad idea either. Have a lovely day! x Teje

    1. Thanks so much Teje! It’s been great fun and a great challenge to do a doodle each day of each month this year. It’s always a battle for me to decide whether to sew or draw! I planning to turn many of these little illustrations into paper pieced blocks or fabric designs, so stay tuned 😉

    1. Hi Stephanne. I am using a Canson Mixed Media sketchbook (7″ x 10″) with plain white paper for these monthly doodles. In the beginning of the year I created my first grid and traced that with tracing paper. Then I create each month’s grid using that tracing paper grid, which saves time for illustrating the borders and the days.

    1. Thanks so much Cindy! I have really enjoyed this challenge in 2015, even though sometimes I really wanted to give up. I am trying to figure out what to do in 2016 for a daily drawing challenge. Any ideas? (besides continuing this calendar idea)
