From My Sketchbook: October Doodles

In order to fill up more sketchbooks, which is on my bucket list for 2015, I’m having fun coming up with new drawing prompts, so I’ve been trying to sketch A LOT more lately. One thing I’m doing is a monthly calendar, but instead of using it like a diary, I’m using it to do a daily doodle.

For the month of October, I worked on a theme centered around the spookiness of October. I have to admit that I always have the most fun concepting and illustrating the initial grid with the borders and hand-lettering.

As you can see, I usually just fill up every square in this grid, rather than just the days of the month. And now it’s time to move on to November!

For the month of September, I went with a theme centered around the woods and things you might see and find in the forest, since we usually start hiking again, now that it’s less buggy in the woods around here. It’s one of my favorite subjects to draw!

I’ve never drawn some of these little doodles before, so it was a good challenge, and I’m so happy with how this turned out! Happy drawing!

Pages From My Sketchbook

I can’t believe August is almost over, which means summer is winding down around here. I illustrated a new theme for my sketchbook page of September doodles – the woods – since we will be hiking more again. I’m excited to fill it with doodles of things and creatures you might find in the woods.

For the month of August, I went with a new theme centered around the beach since we made a couple trips to local beaches in August. I really love how this turned out!

I know, the month of August isn’t over yet. I think having a theme got me more excited to keep going, so I ended up finishing this page early. And I filled in each square on my grid, instead of limiting myself to just the days of August.

Stay tuned for the next month of doodles!

For the month of June I continued to find inspiration in our backyard and neighborhood. I slacked off a bit and ended up getting really behind so I had a lot of doodles to catch up on. Luckily I take lots of pictures to refer to for inspiration.

I prepared a new grid for July with more room in the borders. I’m tossing around ideas for a new theme – butterflies, more flowers, letters, paint a watercolor background for each day, food, clothes, shoes, things you might find on the beach or maybe a continued hodge-podge of ideas.

Time slips away when I’m working in my sketchbook, especially when I have a  fun beat going in the background. As you can tell, I’m passionate about drawing and creating beautiful art and surface patterns. Since I’m on a roll,  I think I’ll keep going.

I tried really hard not to get behind last month, so sometimes I drew a couple at a time. Here’s my finished page of March doodles:

I drew my template for April, so now I’m ready for a new month of fresh doodles. sketchbook page monthlytemplate

Time just slips away when I’m working in my sketchbook, especially when I have a techno / electronic beat going in the background! I’m on a roll so I’m just going to keep going.
