Garden Revival

One thing I am most passionate about is the outdoors, especially spending time in my own garden these days. I’m happy to share a few more discoveries from our gardens lately.

First up, our primroses are coming back to life. They typically bloom in spring, when the temperatures are cool.

They got fried by the hot sun in July, so seeing them bloom again now makes me realize our temps have been cooling off enough for these plants to revive.

My favorite discovery was finding our woodland poppy blooming again. Also a spring-blooming flower, I was happy to find a few new blooms shining through these beautiful ground-cover leaves.

Our dwarf hydrangea trees bloom in late summer.

They are such cute little trees, only about 4-5 feet tall with dainty blossoms that bounce in the fall breeze.

This is also the time of year when our ornamental grasses really start to take off and get huge!

The best thing about making these particular discoveries is that these are from low-maintenance plants, requiring no work from me for them to continue to thrive like this. This late in the summer season as we move into Fall, I tend to get a little burned out on gardening, so it’s nice to sit back and watch everything go through the seasonal changes and revive on their own.

Art Cards – Week 35 – Work Hard, Play Hard

My theme for this week’s illustrations is Work Hard, Play Hard.

Work Hard – Love being able to wear my Chucks to work.

Play Hard – I got lucky with three days off in a row.

I worked hard last week, so I’ve been enjoying my time off to play. Went for a hike. Worked on some art projects. Ate some ice cream. Lounged in the backyard with a refreshment. Hope you’re enjoying some chill time too!

In the Woods

Another lucky Sunday spent in the woods!

This time, we decided to try a trail we haven’t been on in about 14 years, right smack in the middle of our local Arboretum.

It was just as fabulous as I remembered it, a thick woods with a heavy canopy and lots of ground cover, making for interesting scenery.

Talk about treasure hunting, in the woods, you would be amazed at what you can find!

Check out all these incredible little finds.

Always a great day when spent in the woods!

Update From the Trail

I love having Sundays off, especially when the weather is beautiful.

It’s becoming a routine for us to go hiking on Sundays. Some of you who know me well know how passionate I am about being on the trails, any trail, especially a hiking trail.

There are so many treasures to find this time of year.

My hubby spotted this cool pink flower, which reminded me of a caterpillar.

This time around, we noticed a lot of berries starting to ripen.

It was cool to study the variety of colors and ways berries grow in the wild.

We also came across some wildflowers, er maybe just weeds, that had interesting architecture.

I love seeing the progress of queen anne’s lace, from the buds opening,

to the delicate and lovely flowers.

We spied these gorgeous little purple flowers that reminded me of forget-me-nots.

Each time we go hiking, whether it’s on the same trail, or a different trail, it’s so fun to make a treasure hunt out of the adventure, noticing the eco system going on in the woods.
